- Ljubljana (pronounced as "Lubliana" and means "beloved" in the local language) has a population of 300,000.
- Slovenia, once part of Yugoslavia, declared its independence in 1991 and joined the European Union in 2004. Slovenia is also the first country to enter the European Union from the broken up Yugoslavia.
